Visit to the University Library at the University of North Bengal by students of Techno India Group Public School (TIGPS), Siliguri.

Published On 25.07.2024

This report details the visit to the University Library at the University of North Bengal by students of Techno India Group Public School (TIGPS), Siliguri. The visit was scheduled to take place from the 2nd of July to the 20th of July, with students from classes VII, VIII, and IX expressing a keen interest in exploring the resources and facilities offered by the esteemed library.

The primary purpose of this visit was to provide the students with an enriching educational experience by exposing them to a well-equipped and resource-rich academic library. Such an opportunity aims to foster a love for reading and research among young learners and to acquaint them with the vast array of academic resources available at a university level. This exposure is expected to enhance their learning experience and motivate them to pursue academic excellence.

The visits were planned to commence from the 2nd of July and continue until the 20th of July, 2024. Each day, the students arrived at the library at 11 a.m. This time frame was chosen to ensure that the students can take full advantage of the library's facilities during its operational hours, while also fitting into their academic schedule.

The visiting group consisted of students from classes VII, VIII, and IX, accompanied by their teachers and supervisors. The inclusion of multiple grade levels is designed to cater to a broad spectrum of academic interests and to promote a collaborative learning environment among students of different ages.

During their visit, the students engaged in a variety of activities designed to maximize their learning experience:

  • Students received an orientation session from the library staff, introducing them to the library's layout, catalog system, and the various resources available, including books, journals, and digital media.
  • The visit also included interactive sessions where students can ask questions and discuss their findings with their peers and mentors, fostering a collaborative and inquisitive learning environment.

The University Library visit was expected to have several positive outcomes:

  • Students gained hands-on experience in using academic resources, which will improve their research skills and their ability to gather and evaluate information effectively.
  • Exposure to a university environment and its academic resources is likely to inspire students to set higher academic goals and to aspire towards pursuing higher education.
  • Access to a wide range of subjects and materials will broaden the students' knowledge and encourage a deeper understanding of various academic disciplines.

The University Library at the University of North Bengal was pleased to host the students of Techno India Group Public School, Siliguri.

We would like to express our gratitude to Dr. N. Nandi, Principal of TIGPS, Siliguri, for organizing this initiative and to the teachers and staff who were accompanying and guiding the students throughout their visit.
